Looking for Walter Newhouse Chapter Seven
I headed back into Birmingham, thinking about everything I had just seen. Ullman obviously thought he was a tough bastard, that he could do his own dirty work, but he wasn’t. He was soft, flabby, overconfident. I could have taken him on easily. I could have had him on his back on the floor in that cave, blubbering like the big baby he probably was.
But I didn’t. I needed to get out of that place fast. That woman creeped me out. And who, or what, was behind that locked door?
Walter Newhouse perhaps?
It would sort of make sense. Newhouse owed money to Ullman, so Ullman has him kidnapped and gives him to the wife for her to use as a plaything. What was it Jim Coffin had called her?
A witch.
I’d thought he was just using the word ‘witch’ as a name, an insult. But no, maybe he had meant she actually was a witch. A witch called Sheila. Didn’t exactly have a great ring to it. Maybe she had a witchy name, too.
